You probably would have connected at Chicago-O'Hare.  However, before deregulation, you would often have to change airlines at a major airport.  When my Dad flew from SEA-TYS (Knoxville, TN), he would fly NW from SEA-ORD and switch to DL from ORD-TYS.  Before deregulation, DL didn't even fly to SEA (although its future merger partner Western did).</description>

		<description>Before deregulation in 1978, airline route structures were very interesting to say the least.  How did someone in Seattle fly to Syracuse?  Without a strong hub-and-spoke system, it appears you may have had to connect at 2 or 3 different airports to make that trip.</description>
