May Update

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

Another day, another update.  I realize it’s been way to long, so I once against apologize.

But I wanted to have a link to the University of Missouri-Kanas City’s Index of TWA Skyliner magazines.

This, of course, being the in-house newspaper of what was going on around Trans World Airlines.

The school has so far scanned the 2000’s, and the 1990’s issues.  They’re slowly working their way back.

It’s a great resource, and it’s very interesting!

Check it out here!

TWA Brochure to Disneyland…

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

Thanks to the Disneyland blog Stuff from the Park, we have a brochure that TWA released for taking TWA to Disneyland. The copyright date on the brochure is 1955, so this is from shortly after the park opened.

Of course, TWA sponsored the “Rocket Ship to the Moon” ride. This was later changed to Mars.

Friday, June 15th, 2007

According to this post at the AirlinersGallery.com, the Museum of Flight in Washington State has purchased the TWA DC-2.

Copyright Photos: N1934D carries a fake (and larger) NC1311 registration. The official FAA N1934D registration is seen in a smaller scale on the rear fuselage. It is now on display at the museum. (Joe G. Walker)

Good to see that a classic plane will have a great home!

“Sherman, set the Wayback Machine to twa.com”

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

(With a little nod to Peabody’s Improbable History.)

If you haven’t visited the website archive.org, you need to. It’s pretty amazing to be able to visit websites the way they were years ago, before Java and Flash took over sites. Just see here what Apple’s website looked like on October 22, 1996, or to see what CNN’s website looked like on that tragic day, September 11th, 2001. It’s a great site.

At the same time, you can see what TWA.com looked like, back in the day. For example, here is the earliest home page you can see, from July of 1997: (Click image for larger version):

TWA.com homepage from July 1997

It’s amazing how web pages have changed, isn’t it?

Someone even registered twahistory.com back in July of 2001, a few months after TWA and American Airlines announced the merger. Weird, eh? They never did anything with it, though.

I invite you to poke around the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. It’s very interesting! If you find anything cool, post a link in the comments section.

TWA Royal Ambassador Recipes

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

Today’s link comes via TWA Flight Attendants.  They’ve collected quite a few of the tasty, I’m sure, recipes that TWA used to serve in first class.  That is, in first class when first class meant real china and more than just a fancier selection of peanuts. (Yeah, I’m looking at you America West U.S. Airways.)

Scroll to the bottom of the page to see the recipes.
