TWA Skyliner - March 1994

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Today is the front page from the employee newsletter, the “TWA Skyliner”.  The big news?

They were bringing back the Polar Route:  LAX-CDG.  This was served with the first of the Boeing 767-300’s they purchased.  This particular one was from Condor.  (It was TWA #16103, tail # N691LF.  You can see a picture of it from airliners.net right here.)

Also in this issue:  Optimism about TWA’s Summer Schedule, including more international flights from JFK (59 today to 77 by June 1st) and more flights from STL (257 today to ‘more than 300′ by June 1st).  A lot of these increases were by reducing service at the infamous ATL hub from 57 down to 11 flights.

Also included is an article about a retired TWA pilot by the name of Captain Randy Kramer.  He spent his own time in the LAX Ambassador’s Club greeting passengers and in general, spreading goodwill.  Another example of how TWA’s people went ‘above and beyond’.

Enjoy!

TWA Skyliner - December 1992

Friday, July 20th, 2007

This update is the front page from the December 18th, 1992 issue of the employee newsletter, TWA Skyliner.

This was the issue that talked about the infamous removal of Carl Icahn.  With this, Carl loaned TWA $200 million dollars to keep operating, among other things.

Unfortunately, I had to scan the front page in two parts, as my scanner isn’t large enough to scan newspapers in one sweep.

Enjoy!

TWA Skyliner - September 1994

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

Here is the front page of the TWA Skyliner employee newsletter from September 1994.

What’s going on in this issue?  Well, the big news is the rollout of the “Wings of Pride” airplane, sponsored and paid for by the employee owners of TWA.

Paid for by voluntary contributions from employees, it costs $233,000 a month.  Not cheap.

TWA Skyliner - January 1991

Monday, November 6th, 2006

Here’s the front page from the TWA Skyliner, TWA’s internal newspaper. I always enjoyed reading them after my father was done, as it always included interesting stats, or a look at a certain TWA station. Also interesting was reading the letters from passengers. During the Icahn years, it was pretty depressing to read most of them.

According to the front page, the main thing that was going on at TWA was that they were going through approvals to get service to the Soviet Union. I believe they got it later that year. It didn’t seem to last too long, though.

Also noted was the selling of TWA’s Chicago-Heathrow route to American Airlines.

Skyliner, of course, also being the name TWA called their 747’s.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a newspaper sized scanner, so it’s not the whole front page. Any hints on how to scan this stuff?
